Average Guy Reviews, or at the least the concept of it, has been years in the making. Starting out as a tiny spark in my brain, it slowly evolved into a physical form. The dream would topple governments and hold the entertainment world hostage! I got sick of seeing movie review after movie review presented by uptight, overly-critical personalities. Only certain genres seemed to get praise, while others....I'm looking at you action movies....got the thumbs down. What baffled me is how you can put down a movie so much, when it smashes the box office to pieces? Overly Dramatic Historical Fiction Piece makes $37.50 at the box office and Explosion Fun Time Shooty Booty Shaker makes $676 Billion. Can it be that bad if so many people want to see it? Don't get me wrong, I like all kinds of movie genres, but I felt that these reviews never catered to the average individual, speaking to what they truly like. That's where the idea began to take shape...
Since you have to start from the ground up, the initial form was that of a meager Facebook page and Twitter account. I wrote awhile, but just never felt I had the time to fully commit to the next level. Work, family, and life seemed to increasingly limit me. To my dissatisfaction, the dream was put on hold. Always in the back of my mind, it was resurrected in 2016, with the help of my partner in crime, Steve. At this point, we had been friends for years, first meeting at work. Our common interest of games linked us immediately. It didn't hurt that our future wives were already becoming friends on the other side of the building. A work-based video game group came to formation, and the discussions began. It was great to be in a group of similar people. We didn't always agree on games, but we listened to each other and took in what the others had to say. That's how it should be. Look, everyone is not going to agree with us, but that's OK. You can like what you want and we'll like what we want. The goal is to inform and entertain as best we can!
Anyways, after a couple years, it was my time to move onto another company, but that didn't stop Steve and I from talking. It wasn't long and Steve was back at the same company as me, and even landed on the same team. This brought us even closer. A couple more years went by and we were both off to greener work pastures. Wouldn't you know it, we went to the same company again! Not long before, I moved out of the area, a couple hours away. It didn't hurt our friendship. Hell, we were still talking with each other every day at work! Most of our social conversations involved, movies, video games, TV, collectibles, conventions, etc. We went to our first comic con in Chicago at C2E2. It was an unreal experience, which we both want more of!
One day Steve mentions how he'd love to get a website going for video games reviews. With the pilot light still lit in the back of my mind, I quickly fired back with AVERAGE GUY REVIEWS! This was it! No more trying to tackle this single-handedly! This can succeed if we work together, push each other, and have each other's back, just like we had already been doing in the work world for years before! He was immediately on board and the ideas quickly started flowing. We talked about our goals and the steps we needed to get there. Obviously, we both dream that this will be a resounding success bringing us great fortune, but we are also realistic and anything that ambitious will take time and work. It starts again with a resurrected Facebook page. We dusted the cobwebs off and began posting again! It was fun, but the canvas was limited and we knew we needed more room to run! The next step is a website, but we aren't computer engineers, how could this happen??? We did some research and found some resources that could quickly get us up and running in a blog format. This may not be the end all be all dream, but it's getting damn close, and it allows us to post in-depth reviews, media, and reach a greater audience.
In the end, this is not a job for us. We are not doing this to make money. We are doing this because we love it! We are committed to bringing you honest and fun reviews and news on the entertainment world. Can we post 2 page articles every 30 seconds? No. Haven't you been listening, we are just average guys! I know that our readers can relate, which is why we are doing this. This is a work in progress for us. There is always room for improvement and enhancement. As we expand, we'd love to have you join us on this journey!
Thank you very much for your support! We can't do this without you! Spread the word and help us make this a success!
