Just finished up our last binge of the month and need a mental break from what you just witnessed? Well let’s move on to some comedy with our next binge of the month Parks and Recreation. The show follows the same format as The Office, a fake documentary following along a group of small town government employees that work for the parks and rec department. Season 1 shows it potential of the series but really shines when you get to season 2 and 3. Amy Poehler and the rest of the cast are all phenomenal, and not before long you will be quoting all of them. The other great thing about this show is not only is it hilarious but handles the characters and their progression really well throughout the series. When you first meet Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson he seems like a hard ass that doesn’t like people, but by the end you understand he deeply cares for his friends. Chris Pratt plays Andy Dwyer (who is by far my favorite) starts off as a lazy goofball but ends up making a name for himself. My wife and I binged the show in about 2 months and to this day our love for the show grows more with each viewing. Somehow they found a way to make this a show that just seems to get funnier the more vested you become and is a great show to binge!
Pro Tip: Like all normal TV comedies the first season is always the slowest but shows its potential. They need time to introduce characters and find their groove, but unlike The Office where I personally felt it stopped being funny around season 5, this show goes full steam ahead until the end. Parks and Rec had the benefit to end on a high note and not overstay its welcome. This show is pure comedy gold and goes down as one of my all-time favorites.
