Just finished up our last binge of the month and need a mental break from what you just witnessed? Well let’s move on to some comedy with our next binge of the month Parks and Recreation. The show follows the same format as The Office, a fake documentary following along a group of small town government employees that work for the parks and rec department. Season 1 shows it potential of the series but really shines when you get to season 2 and 3. Amy Poehler and the rest of the cast are all phenomenal, and not before long you will be quoting all of them. The other great thing about this show is not only is it hilarious but handles the characters and their progression really well throughout the series. When you first meet Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson he seems like a hard ass that doesn’t like people, but by the end you understand he deeply cares for his friends. Chris Pratt plays Andy Dwyer (who is by far my favorite) starts off as a lazy goofball but ends up making a name for himself. My wife and I binged the show in about 2 months and to this day our love for the show grows more with each viewing. Somehow they found a way to make this a show that just seems to get funnier the more vested you become and is a great show to binge!
Pro Tip: Like all normal TV comedies the first season is always the slowest but shows its potential. They need time to introduce characters and find their groove, but unlike The Office where I personally felt it stopped being funny around season 5, this show goes full steam ahead until the end. Parks and Rec had the benefit to end on a high note and not overstay its welcome. This show is pure comedy gold and goes down as one of my all-time favorites.

Breaking Bad is the first series we are highlighting in the So You Think You Can Binge section, and with just cause. This was one of the original binged shows, and a key turning point for AMC programming. The series starring Bryan Cranston, as Walter White, is one for the record books! The guy from Malcolm in the Middle??? Yeah, that guy. He showed his acting range here and proved he's one of the best in the business! Aaron Paul puts in an amazing supporting performance as Walter's partner in crime, Jesse Pinkman. The series follows Walter White, a brilliant high school chemistry professor, who is stricken with cancer. In order to pay for his treatment, he turns to a life of science....the science of drugs. The deeper things go, the crazier it gets, with every episode leaving you wanting more! The supporting cast, story, and character progression is superb. I hate people that spoil shows for others, so I won't do that here, but I will say this is one TV series you can't miss in your lifetime!
Pro Tip: Do not get discouraged by the first episodes of the series. I have heard many people say they stopped watching a few episodes in. DO NOT STOP! While slow at first, this heats up very quickly, and by the end of the first season, you will be hooked! Season 2 blows it out of the water and it never stops from there! |
